SYGLASS: custom photonics on demand

SYGLASS is a technological platform utilising proprietary glass 3D printing technology used for automated manufacturing of nanostructured lenses, matrixes of lenses and fibres.

Unique features:

  • Automated production of nanostructured photonic elements
  • AI-Generative design of the elements
  • Glass 3D printed preforms

Areas of applications

Solution and Customer service process

1. Idea/Need/Problem

The client needs to guide the light according to his specification or looks to manufacture custom photonic elements: lense, matrix of lenses or the fibre.

Example of request photonic vortex converter lense shown in the picture

2. AI-boosted Design

The Syglass team analyses the need and quotes the job. Subsequently designs and simulates the element or system which meets the requirements. Processes are in place including AI to boost the process. Results are sent to the client for acceptance.

3. Automated manufacturing

The machine is programmed, materials are selected and elements for the client are manufactured utilising SYGLASS Glass 3D printing technology.

4. Quality Check

Elements are measured in the optical setup and checked for matching the requirements.

5. Building product portfolio

If no exclusive rights are purchased at the premium, the element is placed on the shelf in our marketplace.

Birth of the Syglass concept
Conversations between Andrzej Burgs, CEO of Sygnis SA, and Prof. Ryszard Buczynski of ITME bring the concept of 3D printing of photonic components to life.
"Poles reach for the glass"
Our efforts during the first research work are noted by a number of the most important news editors in the country.
EU funding for project development
We receive PLN 2 million in funding from NCBiR under 1.1.1. for the project "Conducting research and development work involving the development of thermal 3D printing technology from low-temperature glass". A team is formed and the project gains momentum.
World premiere of SYGLASS_01 - LTG 3DP
SYGLASS technology was exhibited at two international trade fairs in 2021 - FORMNEXT (Frankfurt) and GITEX (Dubai). The same year also saw the Polish premiere at the country's largest 3D printing trade fair, 3D Printing Days (Kielce). Each visit was successful in the form of new customers, partnerships or the identification of new development opportunities.
Premiere of Syglass_02 dual‑head printer
The FORMNEXT trade fair in Frankfurt sees the premiere of the second version of the device, the SYGLASS_02 dual-head printer, significantly expanding the possibilities of functionalising manufactured photonic components by using two types of glass in a single process.
EU Patent application
A patent application is filed with the European Patent Office entitled '3D printer crucible, 3D printer and method of printing with low-temperature glass'.
"Lubię bo Polskie" award
The Syglass project receives the Polish Radio "Lubię bo Polskie" award. The competition jury appreciated our technological activities for innovative solutions in the area of cyber security.
Scientific publication on SYGLASS
The first article based on Syglass '3D soft glass printing of preforms for microstuctured optical fibres' was published in the leading scientific journal Additive Manufacturing (IF: 11,632), where an external editorial team verified the application results of our technology through review.
Syglass Sp. z o.o. is established
Spin-off of SPV, dedicated to the further development of SYGLASS technology.
Acceleration of Stage2 in Barcelona
Stage2 is a venture-backed acceleration programme for European early-stage ventures based in hardware, i.e. med tech, robotics, advanced industrial techniques, food-tech, and agro-tech, among others. We will take part in their 6-month acceleration and matchmaking programme in Barcelona, running as early as 2024.
